Forever and always, this will be that one band. To get to know me better, listen to some Vulf. Watch Live at Madison Square Garden. It's what joy sounds like.
Smushie is a strange case, but recently I've really been picking up what he's putting down. It's kinda folksy. A good few of his tracks sound like walking along the river on a sunny morning. Alley of the Spirit, Irv Seigler, Mr Number One.
Woody is the pianist (one of them) from Vulfpeck. He made a few albums with Jeremy Daly, who's also a wonderful painter. All 3 of these albums are spectacular. Check out The Marias and Lou Breed. That's some Jeremy deep cuts. There's so much heart.
They just won't stop. I think Flight b-741 is my favourite, but Butterfly 3000, Flying Microtonal, Omnium Gatherum, Fishing for Fishies, and Float Along really do it for me. There's definately something they've made that you'll like.
For a while, in a previous job, as a previous iteration of Tobe, I spent many sleepless nights and dissociated days listening to Moon Duo. It's like a landscape. Lost in light, New Dawn, Ripples.
Y'know how some relationships have soundtracks, or more like... how people in your life have unbreakable ties to music? Djo will always have ties, and they'll always be happy memories.
Everything they've ever done.
Not only is James Murphy the name of a dear and longtime friend, it's also the name of the guy from this band. 10/10, a masterpiece. Both of them.
Anton may be a bit of a piece of work, but good lawd, I do love the music. They were really on to something. Give It Back, Satanic Majesty, Take it form the Man, Mental Illness, all pretty different vibes, but still there's threads to follow.
Again, it's like a landscape. A spacescape. Starscape. There's a lot of pain in there, but a lot of love for life, even though it kills you.
Dave is clearly the better of the two.
I'm fairly new to this group, but they're really nailing their vibe. It's for dancing late at night in your room to. I found All My Heart to be really poignant, about a beautiful and warm form of self acceptance, connecting with a part of oneself that's been kind of squashed and limited.
Quirky, charming, and stunningly beautiful musically and lyrically. California is one of my favourite songs I've ever heard. Throw Me, There Is Is There, The Podcast Song.
Moisturizer is just a great album, I get that kind of mid 2000s vibe from it, but it still feels fresh. Mangetout is my standout track, I think it's lyrically smart and really catchy, and Catch These Fists relates to an experience that so many women can probably relate to all too well.
Su Lee has this really great vibe, funky, a little bit goofy, very independent, self reflective, low-key sad girl, easy to imagine her as a colourfully dressed old person just absolutely vibing. Seems like the kind of musician who I'd love to see her paint.
